Doctor Baseball    Guildford has confirmed that their No.2 starter (Steve Sawyer) is out for the season with a torn ACL. This injury occurred in the first inning against the Dragons, and our entire club wishes him a speedy recovery so that he can play this great sport again.

stunned knight    how could we play so well and lose.

Posted Monday, June 30, 2003 6:39:37 AM

Come on Flames    3rd place is all yours!!! 9 games to go and 6 of them are at home. It would be nice if they Knights, though, could play at Connare Field on July 20th since they have a massive important game against Windsor (could mean the difference between 2nd and 5th). By the way, the Flames away game at Brighton is very important since that will decided who holds the 2-1 head-to-head tie-breaker. Good luck!!!

Richmond Scout    Mikael, email recruitment@flames.org.uk your details and someone will advise you

Posted Thursday, June 26, 2003 4:21:07 PM

Mikael    I played college for four years here in the United States and in the Extraleage in the Czech Republic. I am a left handed pitcher that throws in the mid 80`s, fastball, curveball, change up and occassional forkball. I throw from two different arm angles. I came home from the Czech Republic only to realize that I was not done playing baseball. I think I had spoken to this team previously when I was looking for places to play. I am now looking to going back to Europe and making a career out of baseball playing and eventually coaching but I would like to play into my mid thirties. Additional Info: Mikael Johnson, 24 5`11 175 pounds College Graduate: B.A Communications Frostburg State University I was interested in what available work there maybe over in England. I would be willing to do just about anything that would pay for expenses. I am looking to play baseball first and only first.

RHK    I think Richmond will have at least 2 wins this weekend.

Posted Wednesday, June 25, 2003 4:01:35 AM

Bookie    Will Richmond go winless this weekend? Flames at home in a double-header against a good Oxford team (but Flames did win the away game in a close come-from-behind win). Knights away at Bournemouth who are tough recently at home (earlier this month they gave Windsor their only loss this season). Dragons away at Herts who have not lost by more than 1 run (all against the current top 3 teams); and Herts beat Bournemouth by 11 runs and Guildford last weekend by 10 runs on the slaughter rule. I put current weekend odds at: 0 wins at 10-1 1 win at 2-1 2 wins at 1-1 3 wins at 5-1 4 wins at 50-1

Dark Knight    Knights` bench is full; unless your name is Greg Russell.

Posted Thursday, June 19, 2003 10:19:14 AM

Gavin`s little sister    To Big head tod: The bottom of the Premiership is not much different to the top of the 1st divison. I think the Flames could struggle against the Knights.

Posted Thursday, June 19, 2003 10:13:37 AM

A large Knight    Sasprilla is an old style american drink. Meant to be kind of derogatory but kind of cute too. I though I did mention it in the report but, if you read the Knights previous reports, you`ll see that the Knights have actually stolen home several times this year, some of them with the pitcher about to pitch. We just don`t differentiate. Thanks for the game.

Posted Wednesday, June 18, 2003 8:45:50 PM

just a small pirate    Good game Knights! I was reading the match report and I found it very interesting. By the way, what does `Sasparilla` mean (meant to be part of Saranillo`s name)? One thing though, you never included in the match report about his stealing third base to home with the pitcher about to pitch. Was it the first time in the league to be done? Ha.Ha.Ha. Anyway, all the best to you guys.

Posted Tuesday, June 17, 2003 12:53:53 PM

cheater-hater two    Why do you throw 80 mph pitchers against the Flames? Is this to injure them? Why not just throw 80 mph pitches at them. They probably have more chance of hitting a pitcher than a pitch.

cheater    We in the premiership are cheating against the Flames by throwing 80mph pitchers against them only. Games are this year only allowed to be under 10 runs. Not like the little boy league where it`s 23-19 everyday. Pitching rules now and you know why you are stuffed.

Flames Rule    Fantastic whipping of Croydon on Sunday boys. The exciting thing is that the performance was average - tip of the iceberg type stuff. Div 1 Champs 2003, or better yet, 2nd or so place & a playoff against the premiership bottom feeder Flames for promotion! Lets put those lowly Flamers where they belong & we don`t. Can someone tell me why they are so garbage this year?

Answer Man    Your AVG and OBA would drop as it is counted as an out....but I think the RBI would be dependant on who was on third...I`ve seen many a sluggish runners who can`t make the trot home.

Posted Thursday, May 29, 2003 5:01:20 PM

Question Man    With runner on 3rd, I hit a sac fly to deep centre field. If caught, I get the RBI and there is no official at bat recorded on my stats. But what happens if the CF drops it? I should still get the RBI because it is "before two are out", but do I get counted for an AB with no hit thereby dropping my AVG (and OBA)? Please assume I do not play for the Dragons, otherwise the answer would be that I got a hit.

Snoops` Da    Bedtime!

Posted Wednesday, May 28, 2003 5:08:48 PM

Snoops    Rule 10.04: (2) Credit a run batted in for the run scored when, before two are out, an error is made on a play on which a runner from third base ordinarily would score.

Posted Wednesday, May 28, 2003 1:28:59 PM

Revenge of Snoops    Not true..the batter is credited with an RBI for "walking" with the bases loaded. Everybody else on the field are just idiots

Posted Wednesday, May 28, 2003 10:44:45 AM

Snoops    Question Man: No RBIs awarded, error on catcher, umpire probably forgot his glasses, and it has to be Premier Division, because double plays don`t happen that often in the 1st division.

Posted Wednesday, May 28, 2003 4:05:30 AM

Snoops    As an update to below, an RBI is awarded in the following situation: A run is scored, before two are out, on an error made on a play on which a runner from third would ordinarily score.

Posted Wednesday, May 28, 2003 3:59:45 AM

Question Man    The bases are loaded and the batter is hit by a pitch on ball 4, but the umpire doesn`t see the ball hit the batter (I`ve seen worse calls), the catcher then throws the ball into centre field because the pitcher wasn`t looking, so the man on second comes around to score while the ball is picked up and the man originally on first plus the batter are caught in a double-play (I`ve seen crazier things). How many RBI`s are there? Who is credited with the error? How thick are the umpire`s glasses? What league was this example in?

Posted Tuesday, May 27, 2003 1:09:14 PM

Dolph Lundgren    Furthermore, if a player scores from a double-play, the batter is not credited with an RBI. And you can get hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and you get the RBI.

Posted Tuesday, May 27, 2003 10:21:39 AM

Charlie Brown    If a batter reaches on an error, and a runner comes home on the same, then the batter is not credited with an RBI.

Posted Tuesday, May 27, 2003 5:12:56 AM

round-headed kid    I`ve just checked, there is such a thing of `a walk is a RBI`, but what about get on base by an error?

Question Man    Way to go Dragons... ALL OF YOU. But one question... who is doing the scoring? With all of Southampton`s errors mentioned in the report (words like fumbled, blooper, and fluffed appeared no less than 5 times), there was only one error mentioned on the box score for Southampton with all of the Dragons runs earned except for one. But a lot of errors were counted against the Dragons so that Brad (who had a fantastic day with 16 K`s) gave up 8 unearned runs with only 3 earned. Where is the consistency? (I guess that is actually the second question.) I wonder what the Knights box scores will look like, if they ever get posted onto the web site.

Make no mistake, I have been going over that partcular inning in my mind and will be striving towards building arm strength (which was obviously having a day off) and re-focusing on fundamentals that will avoid similar mistakes in the future. I would also like to offer an extra dose of appology to Tom, who pitched a great 7 frames before I blew it! Sorry mate, you should have a W not a ND!

Posted Friday, December 13, 2002 6:35:48 AM

Paul Stewart    I retired as manager of the Mavericks after the 2000 season having gone 12-3 that year. The Mavericks fell apart after I left, not before. Their only two winning seasons came when I was running things. And I won more games as a pitcher in the British League than anyone else on your current roster has. So let the facts speak for themselves.

Posted Friday, October 25, 2002 10:07:55 AM

Captain Logic    What the Fcuk is this! Is this the same Paul McGuinness who used to hate the Flames, now wishing you all the best of British?. As well as making unkind remarks about his former team. Me-thinks I can smell the heady fumes of Hypocrisy. I personally couldn`t give a rats arse over who started the war of words between Gulidford and Richmond, but we let it get out of hand. Individuals on both teams at the time were responsible. It leaves a bitter taste in my mouth that I have to post this message. I thought we all played baseball for the enjoyment of playing and not to feed our own Fevered Ego`s. As for person who condoned the trashing of the website; You are a Muppet! I can`t believe some of you are still banging on about a stupid rivalry. Good luck to Guildford and Richmond in forthecoming Seasons.

any Mav    Paul McGinness was one of the reasons the Maverics lost their winning ways...his constant bitching and moaning and self obsesiveness drove alot of the talent from the team. Rather than helping to hold it together he tore it in two, the only people who stayed were the ones who could ignore his bullshit long enough to enjoy the game of baseball. He ended the career of more than one promising youngster with his ever critical mouth, while backing it up with some of the weakest pitching ive ever seen....``did you see that one move``....oh yes it moved about 300 feet....the shortstop used to be supplied with a neck brace....we used to play 5 centre fielders. All because when we had a two team setup he wasnt good enough for the A team...get over it McStewart...Lets hope he never darkens our pitch again

I`ve seen `em do it. Anyway, we should have a game and then blow things up. I`ll bring the flaming goat. He can be our mascot. He`s not on fire, he`s just gay. (He`s from Guildford)

Mav    Jarnet was a two bob pitcher

Posted Wednesday, August 28, 2002 1:38:06 PM

Three-fingered Brown    Don`t blame Jarnet for something he didn`t do. I don`t even know what you`re complaining about, the website was trash to begin with...it most likely got better.

Posted Wednesday, August 28, 2002 11:11:38 AM

Niall    Yeah, Joey was too stoopid to do anything all technical, like.

Posted Wednesday, August 28, 2002 2:32:56 AM

Billy Rainbow    What the???? I saw Paul McGuinness swing a baseball bat. Pro golf my hat. If your golf swing is anything like your baseball swing then you won`t even make the Sunday pensioners team on a putt putt course. And by the way Steve Jarnet didn`t trash the site it was Crafty Luftkissenvortoig (Formerly Butcher).

Rollo de Pollo    I see Paul, you have decided to use your husband`s name instead of your own. Good choice.

And do not point the blame at others for your pathetic excuse of a website. And, if I recall in the 2000 season, not only did you finish second to the mighty Flames, but you also lost to us in the Knockout Cup. Perhaps you could look in the archives of this great website and find the game reports.

Posted Friday, August 23, 2002 1:21:15 PM

Paul Stewart    I don`t know who the Mav who was posting all that crap on the site was. They are winless this year because they are so badly run. All the serious players from the two championship teams have gone on to other things, mostly in other sports. All I remember is every time the Mavericks played the Flames with both teams at full strength, Guildford always won. And it was Steve Jarnet who trashed Rich Allen`s original Maverick website anyway. Keep up the good work on your own team and site - I now spend my time playing pro golf events in the South of England and covering American Football for Sky Sports. Gordon Gecko    only thing I remember about the mavericks is that I banged two homers in one game. and if I homer twice in one game that must mean that the other team was complete rubbish !! GO FLAMES Ant: Germany played three friendlys against SA. Did miss you on the lineup ;-))

Ant de Vries    Hey Bert. I never claimed to be a great pitcher. It was only my second season as a pitcher when I moved to London. Funny though I can remember the flames going from division 3 to the premiership after I had been there. Considering I was a pitcher in that time I would like to think that I had something to do with a bit of that? It is fantastic to see the flames now have even more experienced pitchers and you guys can`t get close. Was that another win to Richmond over the weekend against the Mavs??? Missing you heaps Bert (Whoever you are). You obviously didn`t make a good impression because I can`t remember you. GO FLAMES!!!

Enrico Pulatzo    I`d just like to congratulate the boys on another two wins on Sunday, I won`t mention the score or the victim because last time we did that they clogged up the message board with loads of crap. Anyway, well done for handing out the Houdini. P.S. I did save the queen.

And speaking of websites...where is yours? Thanks for coming out, and have fun in the first division next year.

I certainly miss all the lads that side and great memmories of a few parties that we enjoyed. All the best. Hey Niall I am still in Melbourne, moving to Brisbane sooooooooooooon. Give me a call.

Posted Sunday, June 23, 2002 11:08:35 PM

Niall McLoughlin    Hahahahaha. I played for the Flames in the 1999/2000 season and I remember the games with the Mavs well. I moved to Oz, but still check up on you from time to time. Pissing myself at the result. Hi to all that are still there. Is Swiss Tony still playing ?

Posted Sunday, June 23, 2002 11:00:09 PM

ex-Maverick manager    Haven`t times changed. There are only three of the 1999/2000 Maverick squad left playing for the current team hence the 38-0 result.

Posted Friday, June 21, 2002 6:07:10 AM

jamie shannon    How come the first of the Flames/Mavs innings didn`t make it on to the highlights of this week in MLB on Channel 5. That scoreline is unreal I probably think I could have scored a Homer (not likely if you look at my stats). Have a great season. GO SEATTLE!!!!!!!!!!

Posted Sunday, June 16, 2002 12:36:27 PM

Rolling about on the floor in fits of laughter    I really wish I could come up with a remark that would rub the noses of the Mavericks in it even more. But when ever I see the score I can`t think of anything more humiliating to add!!!

Heath Bockett    I just have to say that the last game was unbelievable. We totally gave it to the Mavericks. That Glen Hong was born to be a total superstar. The guy could be anything.I heard that he is a Kiwi and once had a rugby trial for the All Blacks the same year that He made the New Zealand Softball Team. What a great asset.GO THE FLAMES.

Mariners player    I would just like to say, thanks for the game. After reading your game day report (which was very well written). I would like to put the record straight that it was our short stop not the catcher who made a complete arse of himself by arguing a fair call. I think I speak for the rest of the team when I say that this behaviour is completely unacceptable, and I apologise once again. Good luck for the rest of the season guys.

Posted Wednesday, May 08, 2002 5:19 PM

Akasha    I`m disgusted with your report of a game you played with a new formed team that you felt the need to put that other team down to the degree that you did. You are showing very poor sportsmanship and I hope the next time that new team meets you, they whoop your pretentious asses royally. Good luck.. with a team like this... your bound to enjoy the little victories you get as you`ve yet to learn why to play baseball.

Opposing Player:       I would just like to say that I think that your report on the 2001 season being a disaster is being too hard on yourselves. I play with a team in the same division as the knights and although we won the games against them they showed a tremendous improvement between each game. Plus the fact that they are the friendliest team to play, always happy just to be playing the game. On top of that you gave Brentwood a thumping, hopefully they'll get rid of that idiot of a manager, Tom Keegan, and then everyone would be happy. So as long as you can keep your current players and keep introducing more people to the game you should soon be a force to be reckoned with in every division.PS Is it possible to get the site updated more often. It is one of (if not the) best British Baseball site and it seems a shame to see it lacking behind. All the best for the future.

The sunday i even played with your team because there where not enough players. I enjoyed it a lot and i had a lot of fun...If your team has a tournament we would like to get some information about it. And something for Ian, the greatest catcher of the tournament, Buckfast .... makes you .... fast....you can send email to coparez9000@hotmail.com

Cardinal Fan:       Can I just say that I can't believe you play baseball in england. It's simply amazing. Do you eat hot dogs at the games? Do you feel weird calling the *bowler* a *pitcher*? We don't try and play cricket, even though it is a great sport, because it wouldn't sell in the US. Who holds the HR record in the UK? Let me guess, Sir Edward Blostershire.

Buccaneers 2:       Just a message from the guys in Brighton to thank the Flames and Knights for always being a great team to play against. You have always been a fun loving team and a team that gives british baseball a good name. All the best for the future.

PS Also good luck to Wayne Nash in his future commitments.

J-luv:       I would like to personally thank all members of the BBF for helping the Flames enjoy a fabulous season in the Premiership division. 2 teams have now folded, and we have a grand total of 3 teams left! Awesome! To all BBF board members who want my registration money for the "privelege" of playing in their well organized league...you can shove it! You couldn't organize your way out of a paper bag....you're so crap.

The Mavericks       We're sorry we ever doubted your supremacy in the first division. The Flames are clearly a far classier team and better in every regard than us. Even when you thrashed us three out of four games this year, we still didn't show the Flames the proper respect that a team of your caliber deserves. We have alot to learn, and can only strive in the years to come to become as complete a team as the Flames.
